Frequently asked questions

Have a question you’d like to ask? I’m committed to giving patients the best care and experience I can. There’s no such thing as a bad question when it comes to mental health. Check out the answers to the FAQs below, and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any additional questions.

Do you offer sliding scale rates?

Yes absolutely. I have a limited number of sliding scale openings for BIPOC and low income clients.

How long will my therapy session be?

In therapy, we refer to the '50 minute hour'--so each session is 50 minutes. That gives us time to review our progress and do some work together.

Which psychotherapeutic techniques do you use?

I work from a strength based and humanist approach.

We will likely work within a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy framework, bringing in other modalities as needed.

Strength based means focusing on you and noticing where your strengths lie.

Humanist refers to the idea that you have unique and inherent  potential for growth and self-actualization. 

Cognitive behavioral therapy involves analyzing thought processes to see how they might be impacting your expereince of the world and of yourself. 

Dialectical behavioural therapy can help people manage challenging emotions and behaviours. 

Solution Focused Brief Therapy really targets making goals and evaluating as you go, changing your approach as needed. 

Internal Family Systems is a method of looking inside yourself and helping the different 'parts' of your personality to align with your wisest self.

Why see an NP psychotherapist?

I've been a nurse for 20+ years, and specialized in mental health and addictions care for 15 years. 

Nursing is one of 5 professions permitted to use the protected title 'psychotherapist'. For more information, please see here.

Can you diagnose and treat mental health issues including ADHD? 

​

Yes. I can diagnose and prescribe medication as appropriate for mental health conditions including anxiety, depression and ADHD.

These service would involve a different fee structure, please ask me for details. 

Can I see you if we aren't located in the same province?

I'm licensed and credentialed in Ontario; but can see clients from across Canada depending on the services you require.

Do you accept insurance?

Insurance plans vary widely according to which providers are included. Please check with your insurance provider to ask if psychotherapy is a benefit. I don't bill insurance directly but will provide a receipt for every visit.
